LCOY
Local Climate Change Conference of Youth

LCOYs represent the first step in an upward, cascading process that begins at the local community level and extends all the way to negotiation rooms at the United Nations where local youth voices are transformed into global climate advocacy.

LCOY 2025

The Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) is a decentralized space—both physical and virtual—hosted by youth around the world under the umbrella of YOUNGO, the official children and youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. It aims to empower young people and unify their voices in addressing the climate crisis.

Across the globe, each national conference produces a National Youth Statement (NYS), which directly feeds into the Global Youth Statement (GYS)—YOUNGO’s main advocacy tool in the negotiations of the Conference of the Parties (COP).

Since its launch in 2015, LCOY has reached thousands of young people in more than 90 countries worldwide.

LCOY 2024

The Local Conference on Climate Change (LCOY) is an annual event organised for the second time in Syria, which aims to empower youth through their active participation in discussing climate change issues and proposing innovative solutions to confront them. The conference is organised globally by the Youth and Children Unit (Yongo) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

One of the main points of focus of the conference is the importance of youth participation in confronting the effects of climate change, as their role is pivotal in providing new and innovative solutions. The conference aims to promote environmental awareness among youth and develop their skills in this field, allowing them to effectively contribute to national and international efforts to address climate change.

The conference is of great importance at the local level of the host country, as it contributes to building the capacities of local youth and developing their skills in the field of climate action. It also fosters collaboration between government entities as well as international and local organisations, contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and promoting green growth.
